My internship is with an independent fantasy author.  She has to do her own advertising and publishing.  She provided me with a list of websites that advertised newly published or soon to be published books.  She had me go through this list, assessing each of these sites for their quality and their cost.  This was a very long list and attempting to examine each site with equal thoroughness was time-consuming.  Doing this task was meant to help my Supervisor in advertising her new release which is on the way.

I did this over the course of a week and a half or so.  Learning how to judge each site's reach was something I slowly became more efficient at.  I learned that going immediately to the site's social media is the most direct way to get an idea of their reach.  There are many sites that are free and have further reach than the sites that require payment.  

This was a difficult task to me at the time.  I seemed to have a hard time using my time effectively with other things that were going on.  I was house and dog sitting at the time at a place a long ways away from my home.  Going back and forth from there and making sure these rather needy hounds were well-taken care of distracted me significantly.  This made it all the more satisfying when the task was finally done and my Supervisor was pleased by my work.

My difficulty was compounded by one horrible night.  I was trying to spend the night getting a chunk of my work done when the internet went out.  I was informed by a friend in the area that there was a severe storm warning, possibly even a tornado.  A tornado had just recently struck the area so this was disconcerting.  The storm shut off my internet and kept me in the basement with the dogs.  When the storm passed, I let one of the dogs go in the back yard. Later I heard barking from near the front of the house.  I went out into the backyard to see part of the fence knocked down.  I ran out the front door, waving the treat bag and yelling like a maniac to get the young rambunctious dog back in the house.  Amazingly, it worked.  After all of that, however, it was very late and I could not bring myself to do any of the work I had planned.
