Learning Plan

Learning Plan
A) My daily working experience will likely consist of going to the house of my supervisor where I am meant to work and then asking her what she would like me to do.  My supervisor is a writer and I am interning with her to learn how to go through a career as an author.  I will likely spend most of my time writing posts for her various social media accounts, promoting her new book, and building up my own presence in the industry as a writer.  I will also likely be helping her with whatever she needs to get done at that time, and that might mean occupying her kids or doing some menial task so she can focus on her work.
B) My classes as an English Major and as a minor in Professional Writing have naturally led me through courses in Business Writing, Composition, and Creative Writing.  This internship will be working with all of those skills.  I will need to know how to write advertisements to promote her books: a skill I learned in business writing.  My Advanced Composition class has provided me skills that will be useful no matter what I am writing.  My classes in creative writing will help me as I am specifically working in the world of fiction authors, as my supervisor is a fantasy author.  My classes so far have perfectly prepared me for this line of work and I am confident in my ability to succeed in these areas and learn from my mistakes when I fail.
C) I want to pursue the path of an author for my future, so working with a real fiction author, examining her day to day practice and habits will give me a role model for successful choices and habits in the future.  Working in this area will also give me a picture of what the life of an author is really like so I can see if this is really the experience I want to live out day to day or if I am going to need to take steps to do something different.  My supervisor has also been clear that she wants to set up my profile as an author as well, mentoring through the beginning stages of a process she has already gone through.  This will save me a lot of work, confusion, and suffering later on trying to figure out how to become a successful author on my own.  Working with Mrs. Williams will also help connect me to people in the industry that will be useful to me later on.  Connections are always important and this internship will place me where I can be seen and start forging a place for myself in the community of fiction writers.
D) Being a person of faith, it will be important to remember for this internship that I am not only doing this work for myself but to help my supervisor and to work for her like I would work for the Lord.  She has a busy life with many responsibilities and it ought to be my cause to take some of the labor off of her shoulders.  My presence in the industry will mean putting out Christian messages.  I will not necessarily have to write Christian fiction but fiction that teaches Christian principles and morals without shoving Christianity down the throats of my readers will benefit the cause of Christ in the world.  The pursuit of truth, the love of neighbor, and self-sacrifice will fit into the core of my writing because those principles are at my core.
